One of the best-known and most established hockey clubs in the north, following a recent merger with Leeds Carnegie Metropolitan University the club is now also the largest in the region. The club plays at all levels with four Ladies teams, eight Men's, two Mixed, a Men's and Ladies indoor team and eight Junior teams.
Playing competitive and social hockey, both the Men's and Ladies have squads in North Division 1 and teams playing at all levels in the Yorkshire League, offering a standard of hockey for all, from novices to skilled players. The club has two astroturf pitches in Headingley, North Leeds and an astroturf adjacent to its (well stocked) club house at Adel a short distance away. Arguably the most vibrant club in the area, there are social events throughout the season and during the summer a number of teams take part in tournaments and festivals from Barbados to Blackpool. If you are interested in joining the easiest way is to come to a training session. These are held on Wednesday's for Ladies and Thursday's for Men, both start at 7:30. Alternatively, if you would like someone to contact you about joining the club, please click here.
The influx of talented University players provides a steady replacement for the 18 year olds who leave the club to go to University, enabling the club to play at a competitive level of hockey. The 2005/06 season has seen the Ladies teams winning the Yorkshire Hockey Association Exceptional Progress Shield and promotion for three Ladies teams and two Men's. Our youth policy has also paid dividends, with the Girls Under 14's winning the Yorkshire Youth League and runners up in the Yorkshire Tournament.
Mens Hockey Teams
There are eight Men's teams. The 1st XI plays in North Division 2 and seven teams play in various Divisions in the Yorkshire League from Premier through to Division 10. The Men also run an indoor team and play in two Mixed teams. Regular participation in Festivals and Tournaments sees hockey and social activity extend throughout the season and beyond.
Ladies Hockey Teams
Playing at competitive level, our Ladies 1st XI plays in North Division 1, 2nd XI in Yorkshire Premier and the remaining two teams in Yorkshire Divisions 1 & 5. Last season saw the Section win the Yorkshire Hockey Association Exceptional Progress Shield and the second, third and fourth teams gain promotion. The Ladies run an Indoor team and take part in two Mixed teams.
Mixed Hockey Teams
Two mixed teams include players from the spectrum of teams in the club. The 1st XI plays competitive hockey in League ??, the 2nd XI were placed second in League ?? last season, despite a strong emphasis on the social side!
Junior Hockey Teams
With the emphasis on a combination of fun and player development, we run girls and boys teams at Under 10, 12, 14 and sixteen. Matches are played once a month in the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League for each age group, on Sunday mornings. An end of year six-a-side tournament and prize giving also takes place for all players. Last season the Under 14 Girls were Yorkshire Hockey League winners and runners up in the play-off finals. Several of our players have represented District County and North as well as playing in the senior teams and the club is currently striving for the Clubs First accreditation to further strengthen the section.
Indoor Hockey Teams
Playing at ????????? and fielding both a Ladies and Men’s Indoor team, playing in Yorkshire Indoor Division ?? and ?? respectively, both teams enjoyed mixed success during the season.
